Shirley has been married to her high school sweetheart, Melvin, for over 55 years, and is the proud mother of 1 daughter and 3 sons. She especially loves spending time with her “Newman Crew” which has now grown to 30, including 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Shirley gave her heart to Jesus as a young child and has continued that commitment to Him throughout her lifetime. She is grateful to have been raised in a parsonage by loving parents.

 

Her favorite job, prior to retirement, was being the day care director of WeKARE Day Care Ministry here at LFN for almost 14 years. Other favorites include: attending grandchildren’s events, reading, singing, traveling, ethnic food, missions, keeping in touch with family and friends on social media, Jamocha Almond Fudge ice cream from Baskin Robbins, and researching genealogy. Things she hates are: mice, snakes, oatmeal, and grits.
